Florence is the ultimate city in Italy for architecture, urban landscapes and still life photos; it changes from green hills to narrow streets, from historical buildings and sculptures to fashion shops and clubs.
The Levels
This Photography course is developed within three levels of depth.
Depending by the level, students will learn how to compose digital pictures in a nice way using the special equipped lab with lighting and backdrops or from outside visits adjusting them with software applications. We provide also a nice introduction to our dark room.
Students at BASIC MODULE must be equipped with:
– Analog camera (SLR Reflex with ‘Manual’ function) and with at least one lens
– 1 Box of photographic paper Ilford RC (Pearl), 50 sheets

– Negative sleeves
Students at MEDIUM MODULE must be equipped with:
– Digital camera (recommended DSLR Reflex with ‘Manual’ function) and with at least one lens (manual of instructions for camera, if possible).
The amount of Megapixels is not important.
– The cameras USB cable
– A memory card (1 G card at least is suggested)
– A card reader compatible with your camera
– A battery charger and an extra battery for your camera
– A laptop computer with Adobe Photoshop
– An external hard disk or USB of good capacity
– Matting cardboard for final portfolio (this would be announced)
Students at MODULE PRO must be equipped with either Digital or Analog equipment:
– Analog camera (SLR Reflex with ‘Manual’ function) and with at least one lens
– 1 Box of photographic paper Ilford RC (Pearl), 50 sheets Film
– Negative sleeves
– A cable release for the camera
– Digital camera (recommended DSLR Reflex with ‘Manual’ function) and with at least one lens (manual of instructions for camera, if possible). The amount of Megapixels is not important.

Note: All materials can be purchase in Florence. The first day of class the professor will accompany students to the photo store in order to purchase any missing materials.

Description
The Florence Photography course includes lectures, slide shows, demonstrations, shooting and field trips, discussions and critiques on the pictures produced by students, visits to exhibitions and museum of Florence. The course provides the appropriate tools to understand and photographing architecture, sculptures, still life and urban subject of Florence using different approach and photographic techniques.
At the end of each module the students will produce a portfolio or photobook that encloses the Florence experience moments. They will be inspired through our external visits to Florence Museum, Architectural Photographic tours, Florence Urban Shooting and more.
Students are not expected to already have a basic knowledge of photographic technique (for the basic one). Each student must have a digital camera with manually adjustable aperture and shutter speed. The course is held in the English language and it’s open to all the people that have got an interest in the Photography and the Italian culture.
During the lessons students can count on a software package that includes last release of: Adobe Master Collection.
Florence Design School was founded by an entrepreneurial project of the founding members of the LABA, a reality in constant and progressive growth from fifteen years in Florence. Florence Design School uses the same laboratories and equipment supplied to three-year degree courses students of LABA (Bachelor’s degree). Italian Language, Included For Free
A basic Italian language course is included with all the studies. A nice and funny way to bring back home a little piece of Italy.
An hour lesson will be taken every day after course’s end for all the students. All together, in order to mix your different interests.We will start learning basic words, sentences, questions. That ones you could use in your stay in Florence, but we will upgrade talking about current events in Design, Fashion, Photography and following the most important social accounts that can tell us what to do or can help us finding out events in Florence and Tuscany.
We will comment with critical method news and contemporary italian designers combining curiosity and your personal willing. In a relaxing mood trying to let go the stress of the day.
It is UP to you to take this course, if you will do it you will receive a specific certificate.

MODULE BASIC
Students completing this course will:
– Have developed technical proficiency in exposing negatives and making prints.
– Develop a greater facility understanding the language of photography.
– Further develop each students’ unique personal vision or mode of expression.
– Begin creating a series of photographs (rather than working only on stand alone images).
– Gain exposure to a wide variety of sites, neighborhoods and communities in Florence.
MODULE MEDIUM
Students completing this course will:
– Gain knowledge of the basics about shooting color and black and white images with DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras.
– Have developed technical proficiency in editing images through Adobe Photoshop software.
– Experience a new culture through the medium of photography and its digital processes.
– Have produced a portfolio that reveals their personal view of Florence.
– Continue creating series of photographs in order to tell a story and build a cohesive body of work.
– Improve their capability to creatively interpret and criticize photographic images while developing the ability to think critically about pictures they see.
MODULE PRO
Students completing this course will:
– Create a consistent amount of work towards the presentation of a professional portfolio.
– Develop proficiency in editing images with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom software.
– Recognize and critically appraise important photographic images and image makers.
– Gain the technical issues of shooting after dark: equipment, how to paint with lights and what are the most appropriate settings for night photography.
– Understand long exposure techniques and the use of movement.
– Create a time-lapse movie animation.
– Develop a greater understanding about composition and the language of photography.
